Narragansett Town Council
The Town Council is the governing body for the Town of Narragansett and consists of five members who are elected every two years. The Town Council members are elected at large by voters regardless of their political party affiliation. The Town Council President is the ceremonial head of the town and presides over meetings of the Town Council. The Town Council President is elected by the Town Council members.
The Town Council is responsible for setting policy and adopts ordinances and resolutions. One of the most important roles of the Town Council is reviewing and adopting the annual budget which funds the Council’s priorities, town’s operations, and capital projects for the fiscal year which begins every July.
The Town Council also awards contracts, sets user fees, and approves property tax rates. The Town Council appoints a Town Manager to carry out the Town Council policies and to manage and direct the work of town staff.
