Public Works

The Public Works Department is comprised of:
  • Administration
  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Fleet Maintenance
  • Highway Division

Our primary responsibilities consist of:
  • Roadside Mowing
  • Maintaining a fleet of over 150 vehicles, equipment, and boats
  • Maintaining approximately 103 miles of town roads
  • Performing road reconstruction
  • Removing snow and ice
  • Street sweeping
  • Maintaining Storm Water Management System
  • Maintaining street signs, stop signs and regulatory signs
  • Maintaining traffic markings
  • Maintenance of Town Hall, Comfort Station and The Towers
  • Street tree maintenance 

Note: The town does NOT provide rubbish removal. Residents can either use a private contractor or the Rose Hill Regional Transfer Station located on Rose Hill Road in South Kingstown, which is shared by South Kingstown and Narragansett. Bulk loads are taken by weight and tags are available at the transfer station at 163 Rose Hill Road in South Kingstown (783-4554).
